Oral 70grams in 2.5 hrs

This forum will focus on the interesting topic of titrating oral vitamin C intake to so-called bowel tolerance, the point just prior to the onset of diarrhea

Post Number:#1  Post by rmb60 » Wed Apr 12, 2006 5:41 am

Rapid onset flu/viral.
5.30p felt something coming on
6.00p feel bad and goto bed
Tremble, faintness, cold, hot, sweat, muscle pain, bedridden.
6.30p 10grams - symps bad`now
7.00p 10grams - symps worsenning
7.30p 10grams - thinking ED hospital visit
8.00p 10grams - bad but stable
8.30p 15grams - starting to improve
9.00p 15grams - feel better GAS starting now - bowel tolerance
9.30p gas/rumbles - feeling much better now just weak - post cold/flu type.

Makes you worry what would happen without Vit C.
How many people go to emergency due to above?
I've been through this cycle many times before.
My Dr's dismiss the VitC theory but cant offer an explanation.

Thanks for the report. I have a question and a comment:

What happened in the next few hours?

Next time, start taking C at the "felt something coming on" stage.

You hit the nail on the head, and this is the reason I have trouble understanding how medicine can get away with ignoring the value of "replacement" ascorbate. (I think we should start calling it replacement to emphasize that these "mega" doses are merely mimicking blood levels which other creatures achieve naturally from endogenous acorbate).

Cathcart wrote:However, if doses of ascorbate are not provided to satisfy this potential draw on the nutrient, first local tissues involved in the disease, then the blood, and then the body in general become deplete of ascorbate (ANASCORBEMIA and ACUTE INDUCED SCURVY). The patient is thereby put at risk for complications of metabolic processes known to be dependent upon ascorbate.[/i] From: http://www.orthomed.com/titrate.htm

Due to suffering ME/CFS/CFIDS, I constantly monitor my FLUEY symptoms and adjust my Ascorbic Acid powder dose accordingly.
Yesterday caught me by surprise but its a lesson learnt.

Its now about 13 hours since I posted and I feel like someone who has just gotten over a bad cold/flu.
Rundown, tired, a bit weak but on the mend for now.

I took 10 grams again at 11pm, 2am then sleep, 7am, 11am -- its under control, bit of gas & rumble but rather that than last night.

Even with taking 110grams in 17 hours (70 of that in 2.5 hrs) I still haven't had the expected runs...yet.

Also thankyou to Owens comments.
I fear that most Dr's are overworked and only take notice of official treatment guidelines and are reluctant/worried about trying anecdotal type treatments eg Vit C

anecdotal

anecdotal? There are more than 80,000 research reports on vitamin C. Perhaps only aspirin has more research. I'm not sure what the word is. Perhaps suppressed. Don't let your doctor get away with dismissing the obvious benefits of vitamin C as anecdotal!
